Who’s the wise guy who came up with this `Three Stooges’ cast?

The publicist for MGM out of Cleveland sent a link to me this afternoon for a story on Variety’s Web site. After reading it, I checked the calendar because I figured it must be April Fool’s Day.

It’s not. But that’s the only explanation for this cast. The Farrelly Brothers are planning to make a Three Stooges movie, not a biography of the comedy team but a modern-day Three Stooges-style movie.

According to Variety, the potential cast is:

Larry – Sean Penn

Curly – Jim Carrey, who plans to gain 40 pounds.

Moe – Benicio Del Toro

Huh? All are talented actors, but I have a hard time imagining Penn getting poked in the eyes by Del Toro while Carrey nyuk nyuks for the camera.
