Some serious hurt

As Kelly Pavlik was getting set to take the ring Saturday, a fight of another kind was going on on the North Side, as a man was killed, two others wounded and a 6-year-old caught a bullet in the foot during a shootout on Delaware Avenue.

One man has been charged and charges are expected to be filed against a second one, yet, it could have been worse.

Detectives told me Tuesday that the man who died had a companion who was shooting it out with the two who were wounded and he ran, probably when his buddy caught a bullet to the head.

Witnesses reported hearing 30 to 40 shots and police say they found eight weapons and a couple of hundred rounds of ammunition, along with a bulletproof vest.

With all that ordnance lying around, somebody was hunkering down for some serious hurt. The cops said the shooting was the result of a feud. Judging from the weapons recovered at the crime scene, they must have had a grudge with the entire world -- or at least the entire North Side.
