CIFF opening night film and Fabulous Food Show chefs

February 10, 2009 - Andy Gray
Here’s the early word on a couple of annual events in the Cleveland area.

This morning the Cleveland International Film Festival announced that its opening night film will be “Lightbulb.” It is described as “a rags-to-riches story of two friends, a small-time inventor, and a sharky salesman, who hit rock bottom before coming up with a gizmo that becomes a worldwide phenomenon.”

The film stars Dallas Roberts (“3:10 to Yuma,” “Walk the Line,” “Flicka”), who is scheduled to attend the opening night festivities, and Jeremy Renner (“S.W.A.T.,” “North Country,” “28 Weeks Later”). The film is based on the life of Mike Cram, who wrote the screenplay and produced the film. He also will be in attendance.

“Lightbulb” is the second film directed by Jeff Balsmeyer (“Danny Deckchair”).

It will be shown at 7 p.m. March 19 at Tower City Cinemas and will be followed by a party at MK Ferguson Plaza at Tower City Center with Roberts and Cram. Tickets for the premiere and party are $125 ($100 for CIFF members) and can be purchased online at the festival’s Web site and by calling 877-304-FILM.

The festival runs from March 19 to 29, and the full lineup of more than 300 features and short films will be announced later this month.

On Monday the celebrity chefs who be at the 2009 Fabulous Food Show at Cleveland’s I-X Center Nov. 13-15 were announced.

“Iron Chef” and “Throwdown” host Bobby Flay will be joined by fellow Food Network stars Sandra Lee and Tyler Florence.
