A New Year's resolution, again

I know it's time for the New Year's resolutions. I have mine. It's to quit smoking, again. I have stopped smoking several times since I started about 15 years ago, with varying success. It usually would last about two or three months. I'm going to do it this time, with a new approach. At the urging of my new bride (imagine that) I plan to explore a brave, new -- at least for me -- method. It's coordinated through Humility of Mary Health Partners, and is about a six-week program. The brochure I was given says the HMHP program consists of 'six weeks of nicotine replacement therapy and five counseling sessions (once a week) with certified tobacco treatment specialists.' It lays out all the deaths associated with smoking, etc., which I already know, but I think it's worth a try. I know smoking is no good for me. Here is what got me to say OK: The brochure goes on to say 'the treatment center offers an evidence-based tobacco treatment program that utilizes a therapy/medication approach resulting in higher success rates. The treatment professionals at the center will create an individual plan for each participant that incorporates all the tools necessary to help kick the habit.' The process begins Wednesday. I don't even want to guess at the outcome. But it sure will be worth it if keeps me from having to stand outside in the cold puffing on smoke. All habits are hard to break. Unless you are a smoker or a former smoker, you don't understand how hard it is to break this habit.
