One more day

The election is tomorrow and although I’ve already voted, I expect to lose some sleep tomorrow night while waiting for the results to come in.
Sometimes these elections remind me of my husband watching a football game, but he only has to suffer a much shorter period of time. The campaign is the first three-quarters and the halftime show. The fourth quarter is the week prior and the last two minutes, which is really about 20 minutes, is election night.
We get excited about our favorite team and either end up celebrating victory or trying to find someone to blame for the loss. But by next week, when the next game is ready to begin, we only refer to the last one to compare statistics and are ready to move on, hoping our team, or candidate, wins.
I admit to being more tuned in to the elections than my husband. Although he has his opinions and always votes, he isn’t glued to campaign coverage the way I am. So we respect each other’s nerves and while he prepares his cheese plate and assures his beer is cold, I go to another room to check the latest polls and watch a stump speech or two. We are both happy this way.
While waiting for the final “two minutes” of this campaign season, I tend to ignore the cheese plates and beer and try to find healthier fare. I won’t likely be providing snacks and party foods for tomorrow night, but we still have to eat.

This morning began with a bowl of Fiber One cold cereal, a small sliced banana and fat-free milk. While at the store on Saturday afternoon, I also picked up a box of Kashi Heart to Heart, another favorite and my pantry is pretty well stocked with rolled oats, so I think I’m good to go for breakfast for a while. I really like the whole-grains in these two cereals because they keep me going until lunch. Besides my morning cup of tea (or two), I’m seldom hungry before noon.
In fact, I wasn’t all that hungry when lunch time rolled around but when I got a whiff of the scent of my lunch bowl warming up in the microwave, the hunger began to creep in. I had an Amy’s brown rice and vegetables bowl with tofu and some fresh pineapple for my lunch. The brown rice, another whole grain, is helpful in keeping away the hungries
