City employee of the month
July 10, 2008 - Frank Robinson
You don't have to look up the word retaliation to know what Debbie Clair of Marwood S.E in Warren was complaining about Wednesday.
She gave Warren council a mouthful Wednesday, and rightfully so. It was just two weeks ago she went to city council and complained about taxes being too high. In a way, she said quit raising taxes and do something else to make ends meet.
A few days later, she received a request from the city, asking to review the status of her city income taxes.
But the joke was on the city: She's on disability from an injury while working for the Denver Police Department. She retired and has not earned income while she has lived in Warren.
The most disturbing development is what Treasurer John Homlitis said. It is unbelievable he would think anyone would believe him.
He actually said the timing of the audit was not a coincidence. He said it was not retaliation. He said since she was talking about taxes, he just decided to check hers, because "That's our job."
If Homlitas was just doing his job, he deserves recognition as employee of the month. It’s clear retaliation. Dedicated employees like Homlitis are what make this country great.
