Idol Elimination: Is there any doubt who the final two will be?

“American Idol” gets down to the final two this week, and apparently I’m not the only one losing interest.

Ratings have been sliding for this season, and FOX and “Idol” producers have been trying to figure out why. Younger audiences may be tuning out because of older-skewing mentors like Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton and Andrew Lloyd Webber and the songs they bring with them.

Others may be losing interest because of the lack of drama. It’s been evident for at least a month that it will be a David + David finale. David Archuleta could belch the National Anthem tomorrow and cruise into the finale alongside David Cook. And Syesha Mercado has to realize that. I doubt if her mama had her making the final two in her “Idol” pool.

The only question is whether Paula will wait until Wednesday to bid her adieu or if the loopy judge will tell her she already lost in the middle of Tuesday’s show.
