Idol Elimination: Should Castro be dreading Andrew Lloyd Webber week?

Last week we had an all-female bottom three on “American Idol” with Kristy Lee Cook riding off into the sunset (even if that mean old man won’t sell her horse back to her).

The guys won’t get off so easy with Andrew Lloyd Webber as this week’s mentor. I don’t know whether the singers will have to stick with Webber’s body of work or if they’ll be able to draw from other Broadway composers.

A Webber night would seem to favor the women. Brooke White has to sing “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” from “Jesus Christ Superstar.” It’s perfectly suited to her folky vibe. Carly Smithson could do “Memory” from “Cats” or “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” from “Evita.’’ Syesha Mercado shouldn’t have trouble finding something she can belt out from the Webber canon either.

Of the remaining guys, David Archuleta has the voice best-suited to Broadway. He could tackle “Music of the Night” from “Phantom” or another Broadway power ballad. David Cook has risen to the top of the pack by adapting various song styles to his persona, and it’s hard to believe he won’t do the same again this week.

Jason Castro, the only remaining guy who’s ever been in the bottom three, would seem vulnerable this week. Jason and his dreads should be dreading Broadway week. Syesha probably will join him in the bottom three. And Brooke and Carly will battle it out to see who gets to join the Davids in the safe group.
