What happens when you do a Google search with your address?

February 19, 2014 - Chris Pugh
Looking for a picture of your house?

Try a Google search on your address.

With Google Street View, your residence should appear, unless you live in a rural area.

Once you do the search, click on the yellow man on the lower-right hand side of the image. Once you do this, you can click around the neighborhood and explore.

It's interesting to see what you can find.

My wife and I looked at the Google Street View image of her parents' house in central Ohio shortly after mom's death in 2009.

We were surprised to see that the image of the house captured her mom doing what she loved doing best, working in her garden.

Google Street View also offers views of urban and suburban areas around the world.

Doing research on a move or upcoming trip? Google Street View often can give you insight on your trip before you go.

The site does come with controversy.

Google is trying to fight issues with inappropriate photos on Street View (content, image quality) with a "report problem" button on the screen where users can report issues.

So check your address on Google Street View. You may be surprised at what you see.

Have a good Google Street View story or questions about the service? I'd love to hear about it. Email me at cpugh@tribtoday.com and I'll address these in a future column.

The fact that my comment was removed shows that they can selectively edit comments which is fine by me. It's their site and they can do as they please.

And my comment was funny by the way, and nobody usually comments on these blog entries anyway so who cares?

Strummed: You are so not funny. What are you, 12 years old? And people wonder why no comments are permitted on this site. YOU, that's why.
