More on Obama and Wright
When I came back after a week off with pneumonia (no I haven't just been slacking off on the blog), I found this email from a Warren resident who visited Trinity United Church of Christ on Easter:
Our speaker tonight was Dr. James Alexander Forbes Senior Minister Emeritus of the Riverside Church in New York City. Dr. Forbes has been recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top 12 most effective preachers in the English speaking world. He unabashedly endorsed the mainline ministry of Trinity UCC and its Senior Pastor. Contrary to what is being moronically passed around the Internet thanks to the media once again NOT telling the whole story and the fishbrains in this nation that fall prey to this cult of ignorance, here is the unedited original clip in its entirety from Dr. Jeremiah Wright ... former Marine and longtime minister.
Obama has nothing to be ashamed of ... but he sure is doing a lot of backtracking. The media has much to be ashamed of ... this is reminiscent of the Rodney King clip ... kind of in reverse.
To have an election decided on an edited 10-second clip reflects the racism that is still present in our society and the bias of the media that has been granted constitutional protection to responsibly? Cover the contest.
Will people use this 10 second clip as their reason for not voting for Obama? If so, they weren't "there" in the first place.
There's another reason. No matter where you stand on this election ... and I'm still leaning Republican ... I encourage you to set aside 7 minutes of your time to educate yourself, try to put yourself in the neighborhood ministry of this pastor, the position of people, in the historical context of the African American church.
What is going on here is an injustice ... isn't the first, won't be the last.
This is NOT some freak church fringe group ... this is a MAINLINE United Church of Christ congregation that has an outstanding ministry. I know...I was there today.
The link the the video clip is above.
