Songs of Christmas: Red Wanting Blue sings 'You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch'
December 6, 2013 - Andy Gray
Red Wanting Blue isn't really local. The band calls Columbus home. But RWB has played many shows in the Mahoning Valley over the years and drummer Dean Anshutz went to Youngstown State University, so I'll claim the group for the purposes of today's edition of "The Songs of Christmas."
A couple years ago the band recorded "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and released it as a freebie for fans. The song was written for the animated television special "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name.
Thurl Ravenscroft, perhaps best known as the voice of Tony the Tiger in the Frosted Flakes commercials, sang it on television, and the song is perfectly suited to RWB lead singer Scott Terry's baritone.

After not playing northeast Ohio in 2013, the band will do two shows at House of Blues in Cleveland on Feb. 14-15. They probably won't play the Grinch, but the shows should be close to the release date for the band's next album.
