Browns sign backjup QB
November 26, 2013 - Mike McLain
The Browns apparently have added a quarterback to back up Brandon Weeden, who, given the way the season has gone, will probably be added to the injury week in coming weeks.
Alex Tanney, who had been on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, posted a tweet announcing that he is on his way to Cleveland. The team hasn't announced the signing as it waits for Tanney to pass a physical.
"Thankful for everything the Jones family and Dallas staff has done for me. Great organization. New chapter starts in Cleveland today," Tanney wrote in his tweet.
Tanney was a record-setting quarterback at Division III Monmouth College, where he set the NCAA all-time record for touchdown passes in any division with 157. He holds the Division III record for passing yards with 14,249.
Tanney is best known for a "You Tube" video in which he throws a variety of trick passes.
Tanney's arrival comes two days after Jason Campbell suffered a concussion in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Campbell hasn't been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but coach Rob Chudzinski said Monday that Weeden will likely get the start.
