Problems keep mounting

CLEVELAND -- Issues off the field continue to plague the Browns before their first preseason game.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, running back Trent Richardson will have a minor surgical procedure Thursday on his left knee. Richardson didn't practice Tuesday after encountering sorenesss. He had microscopic surgery on the same knee in February to repair a torn meniscus.

In addition, ESPN Cleveland reported that cornerback Joe Haden tested positive for the drug Adderall and could be suspended four weeks in compliance with the NFL's substance-abuse policy. The Browns haven't confirmed the report.

Adderall is a drug that is given to persons suffering from attention deficit disorder (ADD).

Mortensen reported that Richardson will have a hang-nail particle removed. A team official told Mortensen that Richardson could have continued playing through the soreness but team officials want to be proactive and take care of the problem as soon as possible.

The surgery will be performed in Pensacola, Fla., by noted surgeon Dr. James Andrews. The recovery period is usually at least two weeks, which means Richardson could return for the final two preseason games. It's possible he will be held out of action until the start of the regular season.
