Tony winner played Packard Music Hall

June 10, 2012 - Andy Gray
Local audiences had a chance to see one Tony Award winner without making a trip to New York City.

Judy Kaye, who won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” twice performed with the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra at the invitation of Warren native Austin Pendleton. Kaye, her husband David Green, Pendleton and Alice Playten, who died a year ago this month, performed show tunes with the orchestra under the direction of Susan Davenny Wyner at Packard Music Hall in 2005 and 2007.

Tonight was Kaye’s second Tony win. She won the same category in 1988 for playing opera diva Carlotta in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera.”

Pendleton will be back at Packard Music Hall on Sept. 13 as part of the Tribune Chronicle’s “It All Started Here” lecture series.
