Trade winds swirling

As expected, conjecture concerning what the Browns will do in the first round of the draft has begun.

"NFL.com" came out swinging with a report that the Browns are interested in Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III. The report stated that the Browns would be willing to trade up to acquire the Sr. Louis Rams' pick-- second overall -- to prevent quarterback-needy teams like Miami and Washington from moving up to land Griffin.

The Browns do have more to offer in a trade. In addition to having the fourth overall pick, the Browns also own the 22nd pick as a result of a draft-day trade last year with the Atlanta Falcons.

While the thought of acquiring Griffin is intriguing, some common sense needs to be applied. The Browns need help across the board. Giving up multiple high draft choices to move up two spots might be too steep of a price to pay.

One thing the Browns can't afford to do is include the 22nd pick in the deal. What good is Griffin if they can't add another offensive piece -- mainly a reciever-- to the offensive mix?

There will be more conjecture and stories with anonymous sources in the next three months. Fans can only hope that the Browns don't do something foolish. This draft is too important to simply give up picks for a quarterback that may or may not be the next big thing.
